Dr Lam underwent the majority of his ophthalmic training in Christchurch but ultimately sub-specialised in Vitreoretinal surgery under the guidance of Drs Stephen Guest and David Worsley in the Waikato region.

During his training he noticed advancements in intraocular lens/cataract technology which allow patients spectacle freedom, not only for distance, but also intermediate and close up vision.  This led him to complete a Post-Graduate Diploma in Cataract and laser refractive surgery with the University of Sydney to refine his experience.  Dr Lam is multi-lingual and consults in both English and Mandarin.
