New technology brings relief
Taking the battle to dry eye
Near the end of 2019 we launched an exciting new service to Christchurch – IPL technology that delivers fast, effective relief to dry eye and other eye conditions.
A lot of work has gone in behind the scenes bringing this exciting technology to Southern Eye Specialists. So we were understandably proud to receive great feedback from patients who have experienced the treatment over the last two months.
The Optima Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machine uses advanced light-based technology to heat, liquefy and loosen oils in the Meibomian glands. These wavelengths of light range from 515nm to 1200nm, and target specific chromophores on the skin.
With this treatment a trained specialist can unclog the glands and stimulate the production of oils around the eye. Patients receive immediate relief from conditions such as Dry Eye and its root cause, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD).
It’s a fast, safe process that is gentle and non-invasive. While a very small level of discomfort is felt by some most patients say the entire treatment is quite peaceful.
We’ve invested in making the treatment environment as relaxing as possible too. Several patients have commented that it felt more like a day spa than a medical process!
These patients have appreciated that this is a drug-free and drop-free treatment as well. There are no side effects and no challenging schedules to follow.
The procedure does require more than one treatment however. Most patients will require multiple treatments to improve their MGD. However with marked reduction in the use of medications and long-lasting results the IPL treatment is proving a winner for Christchurch dry eye sufferers.
The technology is also helpful in assisting a range of other conditions. Click here to watch the video and find out how it works – and why it can help you.
