Cataract, oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon
As an experienced cataract surgeon with subspecialty interests in oculoplastic (eyelid), orbital
and lacrimal (tear drainage) surgery Dr Rebecca Stack often undertakes reconstructive surgery for patients suffering cancer and trauma, and for cosmetic eyelid procedures.
Graduating with distinction from Otago Medical School in 1999, Rebecca completed Ophthalmology training in NZ. She furthered her education with a Master of Medical Science degree on thyroid eye disease and then secured a prestigious fellowship in Oculoplasitc surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Upon her return in 2008, Rebecca became both a partner at Southern Eye Specialists and a consultant at Christchurch Hospital, where she is a training registrar supervisor and the current Clinical Director of Ophthalmology.
Rebecca is a member of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, where she is an examiner of registrars, and the Australia and NZ Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons.
She has also volunteered for VOSO (Volunteer Ophthalmic Services Overseas) and travelled around the Pacific providing cataract surgery and eye care. Currently she offers her time at the Christchurch Charity Hospital.
The South Island’s only purpose-built eye facility, Christchurch Eye Surgery, was Rebecca’s initiative, an achievement that saw her win the 2015 Supreme Award for the Flybuys ‘Mumtrepreneur of the Year’. She is also a mentor for women in leadership through the Ministry for Women.
While it’s difficult to believe she has any, in her downtime Rebecca relishes time with her family on the farm and skiing or cycling throughout the South Island.
